book four in the Bossy Seattle Suits series about bossy billionaires and the quirky women they fall for。 This series follows the Chicago-based Bad Chicago Bosses series。 Though this Seattle series is somewhat similar, it does have a slightly different feel。So far, the Bossy Seattle Suits series includes:1。 One Bossy Proposal (Lincoln Burns & Dakota Poe’s story)2。 One Bossy Dare (Cole Lancaster & Eliza Angelo’s story)3。 One Bossy Date (Brock Winthrope & Piper Renee’s story)4。 One Bossy Offer (Miles Cromwell & Jennifer Landers; story)Fans will be delighted as they come across a handful of crossover references to other books by the author。FROM ONE BOSSY PROPOSAL, BOOK 1:This story opens in the spring in Seattle。Dakota Poe, twenty-four, has a lot of attitude。 The jaded blonde beauty has a super sweet side, but she also has a strong feisty streak that won’t be tamed。 She recently moved to Seattle and hopes to make it her forever home。 She comes from Dallas, North Dakota。 Many of Dallas’s younger folks eventually move away to bigger cities, but until last spring, Dakota had hoped to stay。 Jay Foyt broke her heart and forever crushed her dreams of a happily ever after when he failed to show up on their wedding day。 Being abandoned and humiliated is hard to live down in a small town。 She no longer believes in love, so she is working on her career。 She pounced on the opportunity when presented with a job offer in Seattle, but the pay leaves something to be desired and the work is not rewarding。 She is therefore looking for something better。 Dakota loves writing, and like her distant relative, she gravitates toward poetry。 Being related to Edgar Allen Poe has long led to jokes, but she shares in the dark vibe of her ancestor。 She won the Young National Poet’s award while in high school, and she hopes to eventually find more time to pursue her poetry。Lincoln Burns, thirty-two, is the bossy billionaire CEO of Haughty But Nice, an upscale fashion empire。 Their focus is quality, and they tend to steer away from over-the-top designs。 It is a family company, and he took over the helm when his mother retired shortly after his father’s death。 Lincoln worked his way through his grief and has not stopped since。 He has brought modern business ideas to the job, and it has paid off in spades。 His newest project is the launch of a wedding line, but the endeavor isn’t cheap, so there is also great risk。 Marketing will be critical to their success。 Besides grieving his father’s death, Lincoln’s workaholic tendencies have a few more motivations。 His best friend, Wyatt Emory, has had a rough time since they left the Marines。 Lincoln took note of the power of love to ruin a man。 His own experience with love blew up, too, when plans to spend his life with Regina Swann ended in disaster。 Even his parents’ perfect marriage had a lesson for him。 Lincoln has decided that work, not love, is a more worthwhile use of time, and with Haughty But Nice, he has found purpose。 He only does one-nighters, but even those haven’t interested him in quite some time。When Lincoln makes his usual stop at Sweeter Grind for their famous Regis roll, he panics when he learns that they have sold out。 The last roll went to the woman in front of him in line, so it should be an easy fix。 When the little firecracker refuses his attempts to sway her into giving up the treat, he finally walks away in disgust。 When she shows up a few days later for an interview for the copywriting position to help launch the new wedding line, he hopes to quickly dismiss her, but she seems to impress the rest of his team。 Before he knows it, he is offering to pay her top dollar to accept the job。 As Lincoln and Dakota embark on a combative work relationship, their chemistry is probably obvious to everyone except themselves。 Their walls slowly begin to crumble, but there are rules against an office relationship。 The couple eventually earns a very happy ending。FROM ONE BOSSY DARE, BOOK 2:This story opens during the summer in Seattle。 Lincoln and Dakota have already welcomed baby girl Evermore into the world。Eliza Angelo, twenty-six, lives and breathes coffee。 For her, brewing coffee is an art。 She has been perfecting her methods and writing down her recipes for years。 It is her dream to open her own coffee shop one day, naming it Liza’s Love。 Her job as a virtual assistant helps her pay the bills in the meantime and gives her the flexibility she needs to make her coffee experiments her priority。 Without some serious savings, though, her dreams only get farther away。 She has decided that she does not need romantic complications in her life, devoting herself instead to her love of coffee。Cole Lancaster Jr。, thirty-seven, is the billionaire CEO of Wired Cup Inc。, a well-established regional chain of coffee shops headquartered in Seattle and known for its reliable brew。 The Lancasters are coffee royalty。 Cole is the fourth generation to run his family-owned business, and he hopes to pass it on to his daughter one day。 Destiny may be a handful at fifteen, but she is a great kid and he knows how lucky he is。 She will leave for college in a few years, and he will hardly know what to do with himself。 His late wife Aster died ten years ago, making Cole a single father。 The police in Hawaii told him it was an accident, but it never made sense in Cole’s mind。 He has avoided returning to the family farm he inherited there ever since。 Some have suggested that he needs to accept what happened and move on, but moving on doesn’t sit right with him even though he and Aster had an arranged marriage。 It was a good business partnership for their parents。 Cole was determined to make the marriage work。 Aster’s death changed him。 He has lived like a monk for the past decade, afraid to make himself or Destiny vulnerable again。 Troy wants to see his friend find happiness once again, but Cole is steadfast in his position on dating。When Eliza shows up one morning at the Seventh Street Wired Cup location for a cup of coffee and to chat with her favorite barista, Wayne, she is appalled by the way his manager speaks to him, and when she has finally heard enough, she gives that manager a piece of her mind。 Cole is taken by surprise when he finds a customer inserting herself and her unsolicited opinions into his meeting, and he soon finds himself steaming mad。 But when Cole discovers Eliza’s talent with coffee, he knows she has what it takes to bring excitement to their brand again。 Cole and Eliza dance around their attraction to one another as they work to develop Wired Cup’s new menu。 They are hot and cold, but eventually, their shared love of coffee and their attraction to one another lead to passion。 They eventually find a happy ending。FROM ONE BOSSY DATE, BOOK 3:The story opens during early summer in Seattle。Piper Renee, twenty-four, is a bird geek。 She might be mature for her age, but birds never fail to bring out the kid in her。 She always maintains a positive outlook despite the responsibility she shoulders。 Her mother walked out ten years ago, leaving Piper to step up as a substitute mother figure for her sister Maisy, who was just seven at the time, as well as look out for her ailing father。 Piper can’t be away from home for long since someone needs to look after their father。 Rather than take a 9 to 5 job and be tied down every day, she has used her resourcefulness to make her own way in the world。 She earned a bachelor’s degree in media relations and put her knowledge to work。 She combines her brains and beauty, building channels and marketing her content。 As a social media influencer, she gets paid to do what she loves – travel。 She hopes to travel the world, but since getting away is complicated, much of her travels are limited to B&Bs and cabins in the Pacific Northwest。Brock Winthrope, thirty-one, could be living a life of leisure, but it isn’t his style。 The billionaire with model good looks took over as CEO of Winthrope International two years ago。 His grandfather took the company to great heights, and Brock has big shoes to fill。 Ross Winthrope is a legend in the resort industry, known for his successful line of luxury resorts across the world。 Brock is close to his grandparents。 Women haven’t interested Brock since high school – not for more than a one-off – since his entire focus is on work。 Employees consider him moody, and his sometimes explosive reputation instills fear in those that value their job。 At Winthrope, nothing but the finest is expected。 Winthrope Lanai is a big test of Brock’s success, and he has spared no detail at the resort。 Despite his efforts, though, something has been amiss in recent months。 Brock suspects someone has an axe to grind。When Piper’s best friend Jenn, who works in marketing at Winthrope’s Seattle headquarters, hooks her up with a weekend stay at Winthrope Lanai’s penthouse suite in exchange for a review, she is thrilled。 But her brief stay gets off to a rough start when she finds a strange man in her room。 When Brock checks into the penthouse, he never imagines that the woman who walks in on him will turn out to be a social media influencer。 Confounded as to how the mix-up occurred and desperate to salvage the upcoming review, he sets his mind to fix things for her。 Unfortunately, the beautiful influencer doesn’t seem interested in apologies。 Two months pass when the pair unexpectedly comes face to face again。 Despite the risk to both their careers, they let temptation overpower them。 The problems at Winthrope are just getting started, but the couple eventually earns a lovely HEA。IN THIS BOOK:The story opens in early July; Brock and Piper are married。Jennifer Landers, twenty-six, left city life and her cushy job at Winthrope International behind a few weeks ago and is not looking back。 She just inherited her grandmother’s property on Pinnacle Point, a small island town several hours from Seattle by ferry。 The large oceanside property includes a cottage and a small inn, not to mention the beautiful gardens。 Jenn has fond memories of time spent with her grandmother on the island, and since Gram left the precious property to her, then sees it as her responsibility to care for it now。 The Bee Harbor Inn has a loyal following, but unfortunately, it is in much need of repairs。 Her parents urge her to sell and return to Seattle, but Jenn has a bit of her Gram’s independent spirit, and the peace and quiet call to her。 With no income and just a small business account that she inherited, to make ends meet, she must find freelance work to keep her going until the inn takes off once again。 If she cannot afford the repairs, she may be forced to sell。Miles Cromwell, thirty-five, isn’t known for being warm and fuzzy。 He has had a few women in his time, but he doesn’t see himself settling down。 A recluse at heart, he prefers to spend his days alone, painting landscapes。 It helps to calm and distract him from the ugly thoughts that often creep into his mind。 As CEO of Cromwell-Narada Media, he cannot spend all of his time lying low at his Pinnacle Point home, much to his chagrin。 His Seattle-based company is just a forty-minute flight away, and he lives there much of the year。 Cromwell-Narada is a media giant and dominates the Pacific Northwest。 Miles took over for his father years ago, and he works diligently to continue to grow the company and keep atop market trends。 Unfortunately, his marketing department struggles to get out of the corporate mindset and isn’t keeping pace with new ideas in marketing, so getting traction in social media is an area that needs work。Miles values his privacy, so when his neighbor on Pinnacle Point dies, he worries about what that means for the neighboring property。 He suspects the granddaughter who inherited Lottie’s inn won’t be interested in keeping the money pit, so he prepares a very generous offer to buy her out。 He certainly never expects the door to be slammed in his face。 But as much as he wants that property to ensure it never gets developed into condos, it is the sight of Lottie’s granddaughter that has him so riled up。When Jenn’s new neighbor has the nerve to presume she will sell to him, she cannot get rid of him fast enough。 Miles infuriates her, but he also sets her on fire。 Somehow it feels like he knew Gram better than he lets on, but Jenn won’t let that bother her。 When he offers her a deal she cannot pass up, though, she ends up spending much more time with her bossy neighbor than she had hoped。 Miles agrees to pay $150,000 in exchange for 3 months of consulting fees on a project near and dear to him。 He hires Jenn as a marketing consultant to advise his team on how to present effectively on social media for a nonprofit side project in support of Pinnacle Point’s new tourism push。 In exchange, he asks for first dibs should she ever decide to sell Bee Harbor Inn。 There seems to be a catch, though, since the money will actually enable Jenn to pay for the repairs and reopen for business instead of giving up on her dream as she had feared。Miles and Jenn have insane chemistry, so it doesn’t take long before their hatred turns to passion。 But Cromwell-Narada has a strict non-fraternization policy, so a workplace romance is forbidden despite Jenn’s contractor status。 And when a mysterious woman from Miles’s past comes to town, things get complicated。 Miles isn’t accustomed to opening up, and Simone Niehaus infuriates him so much he just shuts down。 He will never forgive her, even if his mother’s death wasn’t really her fault。 But trust is shattered between Miles and Jenn, and soon his company is imploding。 Simone Niehaus is set on destroying him, and he won’t let Jenn get caught in the crosshairs no matter the cost。 The couple faces several challenges, but they eventually find their happy ending。For a peek at Miles and Jenn’s future, don’t forget to download the free flash forward via the link at the back of the book!Miles and Jenn’s story is another good addition to the Bossy Seattle Suits series。 Pinnacle Point is a quiet community and is dependent upon tourism for its survival。 Miles made a home for himself there years ago and has no intention of leaving。 His parents spent a great deal of time on the island, too, and these days, those memories are precious。 Miles struggles with forgiving himself for how things played out, but he cannot seem to get past it。 He finds painting to be therapeutic, and he spends much time in front of the canvas。 But once the redheaded beauty moves in next door, the landscapes no longer satisfy him。 Meanwhile, Jenn struggles with her attraction to Miles。 She knows how badly he wants to buy her property, so she questions his intentions。 Things eventually get personal between them, yet there is still so much that separates the couple。There are a few issues that merit mention。 *Spoilers* First, Jenn has the opportunity but fails to grab a change of clothes one evening, then she shows up at work in the same clothes the next day。 That is tacky enough, but given the no fraternization rule, it is careless。 Second, that no fraternization rule seems to fizzle。 Miles is careless with it, and even if there is some grey area, it is questionable。 Nothing ever comes of it, though。 Third, Jenn really outs her relationship with Miles when she shows up at the office making demands。 She oversteps。 Honestly, it was entirely unprofessional in addition to making her relationship with Miles obvious。 Not only was it disrespectful to Miles, she was also disrespectful to his assistant, Louise, by putting her in an untenable situation and risking her own job。 I didn’t like it。 She showed up for personal reasons, and they should have been kept separate from work。 Miles had every reason to push her away given her uncalled-for intrusion。 After the fact, though, the focus is on his action, not her own。 Fourth, Louise threatens to call security one minute then the next shares confidential information。 It didn’t feel authentic。 Fifth, there is a reference to sunset that clearly should be sunrise, causing some confusion and double-checking。 Sixth, it felt overly dramatic for Miles to deny his past relationship with Simone。 There was no reason for it。 And the scene where he pushes Jenn away feels over the top and unnecessary as well – particularly since he makes to effort to make amends at the end of the day。 Certainly, both advance the plot, but it is weak。 Seventh, Miles makes a call that was would have been very ill-advised legally, but he only seems to understand that later in the story。 For a CEO, his action is surprising。 Eighth, the PI’s are a joke。 It is hard to buy into the fact that they have done so poorly。 Ninth, I could hardly believe it when I read that Miles destroyed certain paintings。 I couldn’t see his character doing that。 Finally, Jenn really goes overboard in the end with all her rejections。 I would have expected her to have a real conversation at the least。 I felt that she came down way too hard on Miles, given all that he was up against and her own poor judgment in Seattle。Miles and Jenn’s story has it all – a cranky billionaire boss, a feisty heroine, plenty of steamy chemistry, and a mountain of trouble。 Jenn inherits Bee Harbor Inn on a quiet island community, but she doesn’t care for the presumptuous man who lives next door。 Miles’s dark past catches up to him, threatening to sweep Jenn up in his problems。 Animal lovers will fall in love with Cookies and Cream – the two adorable Doberman Pinschers that Jenn inherited from her Grandmother, Lottie。 The story is nicely written。 It took me a while to get into this story, though。 It wasn’t the characters。 The story is not quite as tightly woven as other books by the author; there are some weak points。 Still, it is a must-read for fans。 Here, Piper’s bestie Jenn gets her own HEA with a growly Seattle billionaire。 The characters are real and complex。 They are written in first person。 The POV alternates between Miles and Jenn。 I rate this book four stars。I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more
